Maybe we should rephrase. It’s not necessarily that new machines are a bad deal. It’s just that they aren’t really a good deal. Not as good as they seem anyway.

Buying a new office machine may seem like a good deal at first glance. Let’s face it, it’s always great to trade in the old run down looking printer on the desk in the corner for a nice, shiny new one.

Or is it?

Here a few points to ponder that customers usually don’t consider. Why?
Because the companies that manufacture new machines don’t want you to, so they’re certainly not going to advertise them.

Unfortunately, America has become a “just throw it away and buy a new one” society without thinking about the consequences. Instead, unknowingly we’ve accepted the “get a good deal now and pay the price later” mentality - usually without even realizing it.

Have you ever noticed how much printer, fax and copier prices have come down since the late 1990’s? It’s not because the printer companies want to be nice to consumers - it’s because they’re hiding the fact that they’re actually making more money off consumers in other ways – supplies, parts and service.

In the past, when a new machine was introduced into the marketplace, the supplies and the parts to fix the machine as well as the toner cartridges would start extremely high, but quickly decrease as more of the model were sold.

Nowadays, there is a much more diverse selection of machines being made every year which means there is less demand for the parts and supplies for each individual model - less demand means the prices start high and stay high, or even increase as seen recently ( most major brands have increased prices between 3% and 15% across the board ).

Hewlett Packard, which controls the dominant share of the office printer market in the U.S., has shown almost a 50% price increase on their entire line of LaserJet printer supplies since August 2008!

And that's if you can get the parts at all. Many times, especially on newly introduced models, the parts are on backorder from the manufacturer without any specified ETA, leaving their customers high and dry!

What the printer manufacturers and service companies are preying on are consumers that keep a machine for a only few years, paying top dollar for toner cartridges and consumable parts, then buy a new one only to begin the entire process all over again. This way, they always maintain a very high profit margin.

Why not save between 50% and 75% off the original purchase price, get a better warranty, a full toner cartridge, more personalized service and less problems by buying a professionally recertified printer from SkylineDirect!
